So a friend of ours (T and me), gave us each a pedometer. I was kind of excited about it because I worry about the drop in exercise from working telemetry to ICU. I do alot less walking now than I used to. Our friend has been trying to do 10 000 steps a day as a personal goal... which seems pretty typical looking at the literature. She was telling us that she has had to go walk around the block from time to time to get the numbers up. I was worried thinking that I would have to do alot of extra walking to get it up. Last night I wore it for the first time. I put it on as I was getting ready to leave the house and I took it off shortly after I got back home. I was surprised to see the numbers on a pretty standard night. I walked 11954 steps, 4.7 miles, and burned 698.9 kcal's. I really wish I had one of these things when I worked tele.. up there I would be run ragged! It was not unusual for me not to even sit for the first 5hrs. I am interested to see what kind of fluctuations there are from night to night. I am planning to take it to work again tonight.
I am sure my problem is going to come in on my numerous off days. Three days will rock, and 4 will be mighty iffy!
